Seven members of the HROC team and four friends have picked up the gauntlet laid down by Macmillan Cancer Support and accepted the challenge to compete in the Longest Day Golf Challenge.
On June 26, at the picturesque Welford on Avon Golf Course, they will embark upon an epic battle against the elements and attempt to complete four rounds of golf in a single day. This is by no means an easy feat and will encompass 72 holes, approximately 400 shots per player (probably well in excess of that for some!) and around a 20 mile walk.
The challenge itself was launched in 2014 and was attempted by over 1,000 teams, raising well in excess of £750,000 for this very worthy charity – this year they are hoping to smash that benchmark figure and Team HROC are looking to do their bit by raising at least £1,000.
Macmillan are an invaluable organisation offering help and information for cancer sufferers and their families:
“We are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It’s not only patients who live with cancer, we also help carers, families and communities.
We fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But we give so much more than medical help.” (www.macmillan.org.uk)
The support it provides varies greatly and ranges from giving carers respite and giving patients lifts to medical centres to offering advice on financial matters or simply just being there to listen. Everybody has some experience of cancer in one way or another. On the 26th, HROC is aiming to help Macmillan help more people through this distressing and difficult time.
We shall be live tweeting throughout the day of the challenge and posting updates on Facebook so please keep an eye out and give us some encouragement!
If you feel like you are able to help Team HROC achieve their £1,000 target, a Just Giving page has been created to collect sponsorship.
