While many people are focusing on ‘Black Friday’, there is in fact an entire fandom of people who are only interested in one thing: the premiere of the new ‘Star Wars’ movie on December 18th, and it looks like Google is building some hype.
Google has always been well known for putting Easter eggs within search results, and this time they have really upped their game. Google recently announced that it has formed an alliance with Disney and Lucas film to bring us these amazing ‘Star Wars’ treats.
Searching “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” will give you search results in the famous ‘Star Wars’ opening scroll. It’s not the easiest thing to navigate, but luckily you can pause the results. Not that this is needed when you can simply bask in the glory of your search scrolling up the page with the default ‘Star Wars’ theme (which is muted by default).
This is not the only ‘Star Wars’ themed gift from Google. The company is also allowing users to represent which side of the force they want to be – light or dark. The decision then gets translated into the layouts and styles of other key Google products, including Youtube, Gmail, Google Calendar and Chrome. Google says that it has more ‘Star Wars’ Easter eggs to come prior to the film’s launch on December 18th. Rumours abound of a virtual reality Millennium Falcon experience. But, until then, here is Google’s promotional video to #chooseyourside.
