Local football team nets support from HROC

HROC has always been committed to supporting good causes and contributing to the local community in which it operates.

So, when a number of local teenagers were left in the lurch after the decision was taken to fold their football team, HROC was only too happy to step in and provide the funds to help get the team back up and running. Including the supply of a brand new home kit proudly bearing the HROC logo.

Now operating as part of Halesowen Town Football Club and retaining many of the original players from the defunct team, Halesowen Town Under 16 Colts will be playing in division one of the Stourbridge Youth League.

The season is only two games old and it’s been a bit of a roller coaster start as the lads get to know each other and the new incoming players bed in. An exciting 3-2 away win in the opening fixture was followed up by a loss at home to the previous season’s runaway champions and cup winners – but the Halesowen team’s cause wasn’t exactly helped when a highly questionable refereeing decision saw their best player sent off after just ten minutes, followed almost immediately by the loss of their goalie to injury.

The team plays out of Blakedown Sports and Recreation Club on a Sunday, with kick-off usually at 2.30pm. It’s a lovely rural setting and the tearoom on the side of the pitch reputedly does the best lemon drizzle cake in the league! So, if you’re at a loose end on Sunday, why not pop down and give the lads your support.
